If you’re a cane grower or industry member interested in new research and innovation, then it’s time to register for the 2012 Grower Innovation Virtual Expo (GIVE) – the sugar industry’s premier expo run by growers, for growers.

This year, GIVE will be hosted by the New South Wales sugar cane industry and held in Yamba from 12th to 14th March.

GIVE Committee Chairman Nathan Ensbey said as the name Grower Innovation Virtual Expo suggests, the expo is all about growers sharing new research and inventions with each other.

“The research presented has been field tested on a commercial scale by growers and is relevant, practical and adaptable,” Mr Ensbey said.

GIVE attendees will tour of the Broadwater Mill, visit local cane farms to view trials and new technology demonstrations and hear presentations from growers who have adopted the latest research in the following areas:

  • Soybean and nitrogen management
  • New harvesting innovations
  • Precision spot spraying technology
  • Mill mud application
  • Skip row configuration
  • Fallow crop and soybean options
  • Nutrient placement
  • Cane specific compost application
  • Soil mapping
  • Sediment trapping
  • Centre pivot efficiencies

“The expo will showcase many innovations of the growing and harvesting sectors and offer an engaging experience for the expected 250-300 delegates from all regions of the industry,” Mr Ensbey said.

Due to the large amount of sponsorship funding received for this year’s Expo, the Committee have been able to keep registration costs down, at just $60 per person.

“On behalf of the GIVE Committee we wish to thank the sponsors who have made this event possible – New South Wales Sugar Milling Cooperative, Sugar Research and Development Corporation, Grower Group Services, Syngenta, Incitec Pivot, NAB Agribusiness, Clarence Valley Council, Manildra Harwood Sugar, Bayer Crop Science, Dow AgroSciences, SCT Logistics, Crop Care, Nufarm and many other local businesses,” Mr Ensbey said.

Another highlight of GIVE is the SRDC Grower Innovation Awards will be presented on Tuesday evening by media personality Peter Lewis, Executive Producer of ABC TV’s Landline program.
